Durum Wheat Yield and N Uptake as Affected by N Source, Timing, and Rate in Two Mediterranean Environments

چکیده
In nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZs), site-specific techniques are needed to match N availability with durum wheat (Triticum turgidum subsp. Desf.) requirements. Enhanced-efficiency fertilizers can improve efficient supply and reduce leaching, contributing sustainable agriculture. Two-year field experiments were carried out at two Mediterranean in Central Italy (Pisa Arezzo) study the effects of nitrogen sources, timings, application rates. The trial compared: (i) three sources for first topdressing (urea, methylene urea, urea nitrification inhibitor DMPP); (ii) stages (1st tiller visible—BBCH21 1st node detectable—BBCH31); (iii) rates: one based on crop requirements (Optimal—NO), other action programme prescriptions NVZs (Action Programme—NAP). Grain yield components determined, together uptake. results showed that: grain biomass production reduced NAP both locations; performed better than slow-release fertilizers; best time depended source location: Pisa, enhanced-efficiency achieved higher yields when applied earliest, while opposite was true; Arezzo different similar performances between timings. Different behaviors localities could be related diverse patterns temperatures rainfall. Thus, optimal fertilization strategies would seem vary according environmental conditions.

In order to study the effect of irrigation interval, N fertilizer and superabsorbent on yield and qualitative traits of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.), a split-split-plot experiment was coducted in a farm in Khusf of Birjand, Iran in 2009 on the basis of a Randomized Complete Block Design. The main plot was devoted to irrigation interval at three levels of 6, 12 and 18 days, the sub-plot was devot...
متن کاملTraits Explaining Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum L. spp. Durum) Yield in Dry Chilean Mediterranean Environments
Yield under water stress (YS) is used as the main criterion in the selection of wheat varieties for dry Mediterranean environments. It has been proposed that selection of genotypes using YS assisted by morphological and physiological traits associated with YS is more efficient in selecting high yielding genotypes for dry environments. A study was carried out at the Antumapu Experiment Station o...
متن کاملEnvironmental and Genetic Variation for Yield-Related Traits of Durum Wheat as Affected by Development
Phenology has a profound effect on adaptation and productivity of crops. The impact of phenology on tillering and fertility traits of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum Desf.) was evaluated with the aim of specifying which group of flowering genes (Vrn, Ppd, or eps) was involved in their control. A recombinant inbred line population was grown under four contrasting conditions of ver...
